The diagram above shows the gods and goddesses as
representatives of various functions of the brain. The top is the
right hemisphere and the bottom is the left hemisphere. The left
is the frontal lobes and the right is the posterior lobes. The
center is the hippocampus and basal ganglia and memory system
and the edges are the amydala and limbic and cingulate areas,
thus, information as opposed to energy.
In the bottom chart, these polarities are transferred to the notion
of the eight trigrams and four Greek elements (earth, fire, air,
water) as symbols of a broader sequence of polarities shown in a
cube, octahedron rolled flat. Here we see the classical opposed
to the expressionistic, the romantic to the realistic, the cubist
temper to the baroque, the impressionist temper opposed to the
post-impressionist synthesis.

on the right is a cut
open octahedron
cube that has been
rolled flat. The center
of the flat cube /
octahedron has the
self pole at its very
center. This would be
the all seeing eye of
Brahma at the peak,
or primary point, of
the great pyramid of
the anthropic
observer jiva soul self.
At the corners of the
flat square are the
angles of the polar
opposite point at the
bottom of the hidden
base of the cube to
octahedron that
emerges as the
pyramid of the
creative self. These
angles are hidden in
the earth, hidden in
the vast population of
workers that created
the great pyramid,
hidden in the
associations of the
emergent space time
relativistic world.
All things are energy
and becoming and
information and
being. Energy and
becoming form the
left side of the square
and information and
being are on the right.
All things are the
finite game or the
infinite game. The
finite game belongs
to technology and the
infinite game belongs
to religion and
mythology. These
games are played as
the creative self
dances its
information system
roles in various
combinations with
other dancers.
There are two games. The finite game and the infinite game. Two
things go into the play. Energy brings movement and process, and
information and structure give purpose and form to that process.
Energy is passion on the inside, just as information and system are mind
on the inside. The inside of being is the creative self. It is infinitesimal
and shatters into an infinity of here and now moments. It combines with
other creative moments to generate the transcendent gods and the
embodied individuals that associate together to form the created world
and the system of worlds and universes to which these associations
belong.
The human body does not make passion and mind possible. The
human body makes human passion and human mind possible. Human
mind and emotion are much more complex, represent higher levels of
organization, represent a more awakened, more self aware, more
complexly self aware state of mind and passion than is to be found
elsewhere. But, in the end, all things human, human protoplasm, human
development, human thought and passion is simply a higher level of
organization, of complexity than that found elsewhere in the universe.
The hydrogen in the organic compounds and water of the human body
and the human nervous system is identical with the hydrogen that is the
fusion fuel of starlight.
When you are playing a game you should play it with all your heart and
strength. Playing the game of human existence, you should play it to
survive with power and strength as long as you can play it with power
and strength. But, the finite game does not lose its meaning when it
ends. Death is no loss within the infinite game. The information
potential and energy that I emerge from continue to be within the larger
system of all things and I am immortal in that larger system, in that game
of games, as a potential of that endless game. Infinite flux makes the
improbable probable and all my hopes and dreams, even beyond the
finite game that is ending, endure within that endless improbable
probability. Here the atheist, agnostic, and theist, the monotheist,
henotheist, and polytheist, the pantheist, the dualist, the pluralist, the
monist, all these have their turn upon the field, in one way or another, all
these and more are true in some unexpected way within the endless
infinite game that makes the most unlikely probabilities probable.
There many ways of saying this and none is totally right or wrong. The
Buddhists like to talk of letting go of craving, of learning to surrender
desire to the utterly gone beyond, yielding the finite game to the endless
one. One Lutheran theologian described the Christian God as the ruler
of the kingdom of the infinite future, who does not exist in the finite now.
The Jain likes to focus on the purity of the inner mind, the detached
observer, as primal being, free from all the attachments of the finite
game and finite game play (tamas and rajas gunas). But, in Zen, there
is no such distinction to the extent that local finite game play and local
finite mind are allowed to melt into the endless unattached game of the
probable improbable. That improbable is the ultimate source of the
miraculous life potential that New Thought and New Age philosophy find
incarnate in all things.
Yet, this is the romantic aspect of becoming, but here on earth, the
world remains trapped within the scientific realism, the factual reality
that frames its limits. Still this factual reality, this biological environment,
this emergence of nature is a fascinating place. A classical paradigm of
the octahedra and cubes, shown above, seems to be the improbable
that governs its emergence, that lifts everything to new levels of
organization out of the expressionistic chaos to which they endlessly
move. This interaction of chaos and order generates a strange
intermediate order, the realm of the collective unconscious, of
archetypes such as the astrological. What can we make of this? A
tension between the Baroque universe of the astrological and the
Cubism of existential choice? What is this tension between the
impressionism that is generated from within and the imperial fashions of
the dialectic that drives them forward from without? There is no final
answer. All is hidden in the deep improbable, in the infinite game, that
unseen source from which the subjective spark of being from within
endlessly emerges, out of the infinite into the finite game.
The human person is a complex of body and indwelling passion and
mind. Within that mind is primary subjectivity. The relationship between
primary subjectivity, variously called "jiva," "soul," "atman," "spirit,"
"phenomenology," "existential inexistence," "pneuma," "psyche," "higher
self," "ego," "self-consciousness," "monad," etc., is probably indefinable.
It is probably indefinable, indescribable, because it exists in pure
primary time, the pure primary time that is bound together with other
strands of pure primary time to form complex time and complex space
time. All philosophy, all language, all communication, including this
writing occur within this complex time. Each realm of primary time is
probably totally unique, totally creative, totally novel. It is here, and not
in our derived public world that all freedom and newness endlessly
remain. There is no way to describe this freedom in the words of our
derived and bound and enslaved public world. This realm of utter
unbound freedom and novelty is the realm of the prophet, of the
buddha, of the christ, of the socratic philosophy, of the nirvana that has
gone utterly beyond the world of our ordinary understanding, belonging
instead to the pure logos, the pure sattva, the pure brahman creativity
that exists prior to all other things. In this pure Zen, pure existentialism,
pure Spirit, there is nothing to say here, for this is the place prior to all
speech, this is the power of the logos, the power of the word, prior to all
utterance.
In death, the body returns its atoms and energy to the world from which
they came. The mind returns its information to the culture from which it
emerged. The monads attached to the body, and its brain and the
brain's mind and language system, return to their prior unattached state,
to the pure buddha, christ, nirvana, heaven, sattva, atman, brahman that
utterly transcends the world. Since pain comes with attachment and
suffering comes with attachment, since this is a state of utter
detachment, what ever this state be, it is certainly more of love than
hate, of joy than sorrow, of release from suffering than of pain. It makes
no sense to fear it, much more sense to fear the pleasure of the world,
the attachments that come with greed and lust that offer so much
pleasure and deliver so much suffering.
The ancient wisdom is that suffering does not come from detachment,
not from release, but from the pleasure that we refuse to surrender.
The problem is not our primal creativity, but the secondary creation, the
addictions to which we are enslaved. The problem is neither death nor
life, but our insistence on living a life of living death in which our
creativity is enslaved to our addictive attachments and the pain and hate
and anger and fear and lust and greed with which they are always
associated. The problem is the waste of life by enslaving it to the
surface, the outer rind of lust and longing, rather than the deep
meaningful core that is spiritual joy and compassion and wonder.
The tragedy of human life is our fear of that compassion and wonder
that is our only true hope and our faith in the lust and greed that
endlessly enslaves us and destroys our trustworthiness, as well as our
trust. Failing to trust ourselves, we trust no one, and we lose the trust of
others to walk alone in the valley of the hell of our own self hate and
hatred of all other things. The Nazi death camps are the physical
manifestation of that hate, just as the Nobel prizes in medicine and
peace and literature are the physical manifestation of the compassion
and wonder that is its opposite. We have a choice that is symbolized by
the Prophet of Islam, the Christ of Christmas, the Buddha of Nirvana,
the Socrates of the Symposium, the Confucian scholar of the Central
Harmony, the Krishna of the Mahatma's Gita, the science of Darwin and
Pasteur. We can chose that way of creative life, that road of salvation,
of inner joy, or we can chose the road of addictive craving that leads to
the death of the soul, trapped within the suffering body, trapped within
its addictive lust and greed.

So what are our
assumptions about the
person. Our language
makes it the central item
of our communication,
but human
communication is only
really accurate about the
human scale of things.
When it comes to the very
large and the very small,
our human
communication tends to
be totally wrong. This is
the point that Buddhism
makes. The soul and the
infinite game are both
utterly beyond the finite
scale of the human
language world, they are
gone gone gone gone
utterly beyond. Of such
things nothing can be
said because all speech
is about human things in
the complex space time
world that emerges out of
Buddhamind infinitesimal
soul time within the
boundless void that is all
being.
Buddha would not have
us even talk about them.
This is where Buddha is
not understood. It was
not Buddha's point that
there is a creator god or
no creator god, an
immortal soul, or no
immortal soul,
reincarnation or no
reincarnation,
resurrection or no
resurrection. Buddha's
point was that suffering in
this world is a result of
clinging and attachment
to this world. That the
Dharma, Dhamma pada,
the good path, the worthy
path, the duty path, the
right path led away from
the world of false things,
away from the shadow
world of lust and greed.
What ever god, soul,
divine mind, exists, or
does not exist, the right
way to deal with its
existence, non-existence
is not the way of greed
and lust and addiction.
What ever transcendent
reality is, it requires
transcendent action, right
action, right meditation to
reach for it. It is important
to know the specific
characteristics of things
in the finite world
because playing the
greed game, the lust
game, the grasping
game require us to know
about the things we
grasp. When we treat
items in the infinite game
this way we make them
into idols and play with
them on the field of
ideology and gang
behavior leading to war
and plunder.
Transcendent reality
transcends. It is not
finite. An idol cannot
capture it, only cloth its
surface. There are no
words for it. It is Jahweh,
that which becomes what
it becomes, it is Elohim,
all the gods, plural and
non-plural. Nirvana
transcends monotheism,
pantheism, theism,
atheism, polytheism. It is
all in its wholeness and
none in its creative
freedom. Buddha was
trying to say this thing that
can not be said, the
things that Moses saw
and heard that cannot be
seen and heard. The
things that Mohammed
was the prophet of that
cannot be written in
prophecy. The Koran is
the eternal perfect skin of
story that swallows and
assimilates all other story
and becomes pregnant
with the infinite game
which explodes its local
edge into the holy stone
that is the heaven of all
becoming, the sign post
of the endless game
beyond all other games

Above is the flattened square, in pink oil paint, that
represents the pyramid/cube, the octahedron of all
things. In the center is the axis of the cube and at the
corners are the wheel that it turns on, the dance of life,
the energy pole that is the opposite of the laws and
systems that fix all things in place.
There are four points on this great wheel, two polarities,
the whole and boundless, the infinite game at the top
and the bound and finite, the particular and partial at the
bottom. To the left is the inner hidden infinitesimal
monad of the phenomenological true self and to the right
is the public realm of space and time and language and
society and relativity and association. The infinite
connects with this infinitesimal self to form the
transcendent and the divine. The infinite connects with
the public to form the universe and the collective
unconscious from which it emerges. The finite connects
with the infinitesimal monad of phenomenology to form
the person and personal consciousness. The finite
connects with the social to form the manifest world.
In this painting, the divine is Theology and the manifest
is Economics, the collective is Ideology and the personal
is Criticism. The prime self is Phenomenology and its
social opposite is Education, the infinite whole is
Religion and the finite part is Technology, the
information center is Scholarship and the moving rim is
Opera.
It represents a flattened octahedron. The Heaven
trigram face is Magic and its Earth trigram opposite is
Science. The Wind trigram (element Air) face is
Metaphysics and its Thunder trigram (element Dust)
opposite is Business. The Lake trigram face is Literature
(element Water) and its Mountain trigram opposite is
Mathematics (element Salt). The Water Pit trigram face
is Government (element Pottery) and its Flame trigram
opposite is Design (element Fire). Here we see
Romanticism and the Supernatural vs. Realism and the
Natural, Classicism and the Ideal vs. Expressionism and
the Practical, Symbolism and the Eclectic vs.
Impressionism and the Analytic, Baroque, Absolutism,
and Order vs. Cubism, Liberation, and Chaos.
In systems, Heaven is the mutant source and Earth is
the phenotypic result, Wind is the genetic set point, the
adaptive peak, and Thunder is the maladaptive
expression, Lake is gene pools and genetic
recombination and Mountain is speciation, isolation, and
analysis of input, Water Pit is feedback mechanisms and
homeostasis and Flame is competition, extinction, and
natural selection. From this systems order, Magic to
Science, Metaphysics to Business, Literature to
Mathematics, Government to Design, comes the human
interpretation and interaction with all things.
Below is another example of a flattened octahedron:

Below is one pole of the system order of all things, the Group Pole, its opposite is the Self, the prime beginning.
Click on the left for the Pagoda 30 level
of this web site system. See the group pole in diagram below:
In this flattened octahedron painting, like the one above it,
we see the eight faces of the octahedron, Heaven trigram to
Earth trigram, Wind trigram to Thunder, Lake to Mountain,
and Water Pit to Flame. Here Heaven is called
Supernatural, and Earth is called Natural, Wind is called
Paradigm, Thunder is called Events, Lake is called
Sentiment and Mountain is called Mind, Water Pit is called
Fate and Flame is called Will.
The three axial polarities are Law at the axial fixed center
and Life at the flux pole edge, Spirit at the self pole to
Society at the social, One at the infinite whole and Body at
its finite part polar opposite. Each is the vertex of an
octahedron, face of a cube.

This is another flattened octahedron. Here Heaven is
Inexhaustable and Earth is Practical, Wind is Precious and
Thunder is Practical, Lake is Solidarity and Mountain is
Rigour, Water Pit is Organization and Flame is Freedom.
Self is Hero and Social is Community, Fixed is Constant
and Flux is Vitality, Whole is Totality and Part is
Possession.
above is the self, or single, or creative face of the cube shown at the very top, this is the polar opposite of the cube at the top.
