THE GRAND HARMONY OF ALL THINGS
The Grand Harmony of All Things requires the consideration of a
number of symbol systems introduced on other pages, the levels
and stages of organization, the I Ching (Yi Jing) and the buried
octahedron-cube-pyramid, the alternation of polar opposites in
economic orientations, artistic tempers, and personality and brain
functions, even the astrological interpretation of signs and planets,
everything is grist for this grand game of games, this side bar of the
infinite game which calls for all players to join the endless play of
bliss and love. The name of this game is Tao/Dao/Brahman, or the
blowing out, the Nirvana of the finite game of craving and
attachment, there is no craving in the infinite game, for lacking finite
attachment, all desires are instantly fulfilled and cease to be desire.
This game is the battle field of the Gita and the Kingdom of the
endlessly coming Heaven and the dominion of the endlessly coming
all powerful God, Goddess.
The success of Western science in description and prediction of
technical and measurable forms has generated the false notion that
some deeper understanding has been achieved. This is utterly
untrue because the boundless depth of reality is just that, infinitely
removed from the surface elements that are the subject of Western
science.
The more attached become to this measurable reality, the further
we travel from the meaning, the depth, the creative source that
generates it, a creative source that is hidden deep within, infinitely
remote and infinitely complex, utterly beyond the limits of all
objective form. The deep subjective is the polar opposite of the
objective, the unknown core utterly opposite of the known exterior.
We can best know that core by taking the factual world and
postulating its opposites. If the factual world is finite and mortal
and visible and objective and natural and rational and definite and
mechanistic and determinant, then its inner source is infinite and
immortal and invisible and subjective and supernatural and irrational
and indefinite and existential and indeterminant. The problem is that
we have used the subjective, the invisible, the inner, the existential
to explain the objective. The explanation of the objective is the
objective, of the finite is the finite. The subjective, magical, infinite
indwells the finite, not as its explanation, but as its deep core.
There is no need to put a soul within the brain to explain the
functions of the brain, the brain's structure and function explain its
processes and products. But, the deep core of the brain is utterly
different from its surface product. This explains nothing but signifies
everything, because the deep core of the brain is what roots it in
everything, in the brahman essence that transcends all visible things.
A lot of the things that do not make sense are meaningless to us
because we approach them with the wrong assumptions. Energy
that cannot be created or destroyed makes an infinite flux
necessary and infinite flux makes the most improbable of
improbables probable. Thus, infinite flux provides the cosmology
sufficient for all kinds of complex metaphysics, given the
weightlessness of system, information, structure, given the
weightlessness of complexity. Since complexity has no weight,
infinite amounts of it can be present in an infinitesimal.
The finite quanta of our system are simply that, finite quanta of our
scientifically observed system. From a scientific point of view,
oriented toward provable truth, we must assume that quanta are
simple, not themselves complex. From a magical point of view,
oriented toward imaginative possibility, we must assume that
quanta are complex and filled with hidden unseen deeper
complexity, and ultimately, at some infinitely removed point,
simplicity.
Realism is simply one temper, one human motive. The romantic
temper does not seek fact but imagination, stimulus, exploration,
interest. From a romantic point of view the universe is filled with
potential souls, in each rock, tree, drop of water, each with an
endless continuity of existence.
Each soul brings its own deep complexity, infinitely rich, product of
an infinity of incarnations, to its current attachment in the physical
world. The system looks like this:
The pattern above is a cube/octahedron/tetrahedron made flat.
Each point has its polar opposite. This approach to metaphysics
mimics some of the polarization principle operative in biology and
physiology that allow the establishment of homeostasis. In the
human body, the autonomic nervous system has two parts, the
sympathetic and the parasympathetic. The sympathetic supports
the fight or flight response. The parasympathetic supports the
resting and digesting response. The human brain tends to build on
these polarities, thus, the left hemisphere of the cerebrum tends to
be fact oriented (the focal point of a fight or flight response) and the
right hemisphere tends to be meaning and context oriented (the
background into which digestion and rest are absorbed).
In the diagram above, the top of the square would represent poles
that are more context based right cerebral hemisphere and the
bottom of the square would represent poles that are more fact
oriented left cerebral hemisphere. The left side of the square is
more towards the action planning and oriented frontal lobes and the
right side of the square is more of the sensory impulse association
areas in the posterior portions of the parietal lobes, the parietal-
occipital- temporal lobe association areas.
The center of the chart would be information collecting areas in the
hippocampus (associated temporal lobe, frontal cortex, and basal
ganglia) and the edges would be the emotion and energy monitoring
areas in the amygdala and limbic lobes and hypothalamus.
Is the metaphysics supported here simply a manifestation of the
functions of the brain that develops the metaphysics, or is it
possible there is an underlying order that transcends brain and body
and mirrors a deeper systems structure in the universe and the
universe creating ground of existence itself? These bring up the
metaphysical thesis and antithesis of Kant's Critique of Pure
Reason and the Hegelian notion of some sort of dialect of these
polar opposites. Elsewhere, I have even brought in connections to
Chinese philosophy and the I Ching (Yi Jing, Chinese Book of
Changes).
