This site is created and maintained by Allan Ralph Andrews, Ph.D, born in Long
Beach California on September 13th 1939 at 4:03 AM at Saint Mary's hospital
to Ralph B. Andrews and Jean Thompson Andrews (now Colaluca). Allan
Andrews has a Masters in Botany from the University of California Los Angeles
(awarded in 1963 after passing the doctoral writtens and completing all course
work on the doctorate, the doctorate was not awarded as a result of bad
feeling which resulting from research work done while curator of the herbarium
of medicinal plants (under direction of Dr. Mildred Mathias and Dr. Dermat
Tayor). Research on chemical properties of Limosella aculus was being
financed by Army Chemical Warfare. When I refused to support Army
Chemical Warfare Research, UCLA and I parted company with bad feelings on
the part of all. I proceeded to continue my studies as a teaching fellow in the
philosophy department of the State University of New York at Albany, in
research at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in London, England, as a
teaching fellow in biology at California State University, Los Angeles, and in
history at the University of Houston. At this time I passed the Certified Public
Accountant Examination and was given a CPA certificate by the State of
Washington, where I served on the relations with universities committee of the
state CPA society. I later received a Masters in Counseling Psychology and a
license as a School Psychologist from National University in San Jose, San
Diego, Orange, and Costa Mesa campuses, in California, and a doctorate in
educational curricula from Pacific Western University, Los Angeles campus. I
currently am studying Art at California State University, Bakersfield.
The I Ching, Yi Ching, and ancient Chinese system of organizing reality
creates a cube/or octahedron, with eight faces, or corners if a cube, and
with six sides, or vertex points if an octahedron. The six points are top line
yang against top line yin and middle line yang against middle line yin and
bottom line yang against bottom line yin. We interpret these polarities as
self against social, whole against part, and flux against fixed. The eight
trigrams that result are Heaven (infinite subjective magical source) against
Earth (finite objective scientific product), Wind (necessary ideal
metaphysical model) against Thunder (contingent practical vulgar
expression), Flame (open existential free experiment) against Water Pit
(closed mechanistic determinate order), and Mountain (separate analytical
empirical mind), and Lake (mixed dogmatic dialectical synchrony). We find
that we can superimpose the ancient tetrahedron of the Greek Elements
so that Flame is the same as the Greek "Fire" and Lake is "Water," Wind
is "Air," and Earth is "Earth Element." Here "Element" refers not to
chemistry but to temper. Thus, Fire is Cubist and Water is
Post-Impressionist, Air is Classical and Earth is Realistic, the opposite of
Cubist is the Baroque of Water Pit. Of Post Impressionist is the
Impressionist of Mountain Trigram, of Classical is the Expressionist of
Thunder, of Realist is the Romantic of Heaven Trigram. The result is a
wheel of symbolism that works as follows:
comes up bottom line yang energy flux goes down
HEAVEN TRIGRAM SOURCE (opposite of Earth)
Light top line yang goes up Wet middle line yang rains down
WIND TRIGRAM IDEAL (Air)
FLAME MOUNTAIN bottom line yin fixed WATER PIT LAKE
(fire) (opposite of water) (opposite of fire) (water)
EARTH TRIGRAM PRODUCT
Dry bottom line yin evaporates up Heavy top line yin falls down
THUNDER TRIGRAM (opposite of Air)
goes up bottom line yang energy flux comes down
This circulation of bottom line yang generates a great wheel. Rain and
evaporation, wet and dry, are symbols of that wheel that cycles between
the whole (wet) and the part (dry), between the singular infinitesimal
monad of the self (light) and the associated social attachment complex that
is public space time (heavy). A. R. Andrews, Bakersfield CA. Oct 30th

The following note is added by Allan Ralph
Andrews, who is the source of everything on
this website. We assume that there is
progress in knowledge. More and more the
indications are that knowledge progress in the
left hemisphere of the brain that deals with
facts, we tend to do a better job with our facts
and technology and our manipulation of the
world over time. But, this progress in the left
brain tends to undermine the integration of the
right hemisphere. Left hemisphere fact tends
to develop a state of depression in the right
hemisphere. It senses a loss of meaning and a
loss of connection. Part of the problem is the
left brain concept of fact as something good
and if it is not fact it is not good. So the left
brain downplays the integrative symbols of the
right brain and the person discovers himself,
herself in some sort of existential war with
nature itself. This is not help by so called
philosophical experiments that claim of have
proven there is no free will. This is so much
narcissistic garbage on the part of academic
fools that have no notion of the limits of their
disciplines and confuse themselves with God.
The basic metaphysical patterns have not
changed since humans first started using
words. These ageless patterns are symbolized
in the I Ching of the Chinese (Yi Ching) and
immortalized in the antimonies of the Critique
of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant.
The approach you see here is a development
of that integrative system that transcends
differences of religion and matters of fact. It is
rooted in the tempers of the human spirit,
romantic against realist (Heaven Trigram
against Earth), rebel against conformist (Flame
against Water PIt), skeptic against sentimental
(Mountain against Lake Trigram) idealist
against pragmatist (Wind Trigram against
Thunder). In this system, the symbolic and
integrative approach manifests in occult
symbols such as those of astrology, this right
brain approach can be found in the trigrams
associated with the whole, with middle line
yang, its opposite, the fact oriented left
hemisphere can be found in the middle line yin
trigrams that focus on the particular. As this
integration moves toward the particular,
something happens equivalent to the ancient
Egyptian notion of the Ka moving down toward
the Ba and the body. This is found in the left
side of the model as middle line yang
descends into the top line yang of the rising
awareness of self in the developing individual.
In brain function, this is the executive areas of
the frontal lobes. A. R. Andrews, Nov. 2011
Civilization has made wonderful
progress in left cerebral hemisphere
based fact and has gone backwards in
right hemisphere based meaning. The
great sources of right hemisphere
based meaning are all ancient:
Confucius, the Book of Dao, Socrates,
Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, Plotinus,
St. Augustine, St. Paul, Jesus, the
Gospels, the Dialogues of Plato, the
Ethics of Aristotle, writings of Cicero,
Mencius, sayings of Buddha, the
Tripitaka of Buddhism, the Upanishads
of Hinduism, the book of Job, the
Proverbs, Jeremiah, Plutarch's lives,
and so forth. Modern ethics and
philosophy is a pale commentary. The
result is that the modern meaning
seeking right brain tends to depress,
there is nothing for it to feed on in
modern life. The metaphysics, the
meaning of physics, of the facts of the
physical world, is found first in
mathematics, to the extent that the set
points of the cosmos are a kind of
mathology in many dimensions and
numerous topological questions and
various kinds of proofs and manifolds.
This is why I like the Chinese, Yi Ching,
or I Ching. It is the attempt of the
ancient Chinese to simplify the
mathematics of metaphysics and
magic. With its polarity between yin
and yang in three lines that form eight
trigrams, that are double in turn to form
hexagrams, it forms a cube of eight
trigram corners, an octahedron of eight
trigram faces. The yin to yang
polarities in three axial dimensions with
six poles are the faces of the Cube,
which will easily collapse into two
tetrahedra, or cut the flux face open
and make it a wheel that revolves on
the fixed face axial point, the axis here
is the moving bottom line yang to the
fixed bottom line yin. Now you have a
two dimensional wheel with one
dimensional spokes. It makes a very
convenient system. I put the Air type
trigrams on top, Heaven and Wind, and
the Water type trigrams on the right,
Water Pit and Lake, the Earth Type on
the bottom, Earth and Thunder (Earth
Quakes) and the Fire types on the left
side of the wheel, Flame and Mountain
Trigram (Mountain as a fire belching
Pacific Rim Volcano). The bottom line
yang trigrams go on the outside, the
moving rim of the wheel, and the
bottom line yin trigrams in the center.
It is nice way of developing a
mathology, a simple math centered
metaphysical pattern. In general, I tend
to put Kant's infinite in Heaven Trigram
and finite in Earth, necessary in Wind
and contingent in Thunder, open in
Flame Trigram and closed in Water Pit,
simple in Mountain and compound in
Lake. Heaven becomes mutation and
Earth becomes phenotypic result. Wind
is adaptive genotype, adaptive peak,
the ideal set point, and Thunder is the
maladaptive expressions that emerge
from evolution as entropy. Flame is
natural selection, Mountain is isolation
and species formation and analytic
input, Water Pit is feedback,
homeostatic mechanisms, and
replication. Lake is population genetics,
gene pools, recombination, syngamy,
and hybrid formation.
